ABOUT NLP

Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) is the study of the structure of our subjective experience so it concerns the language of our senses and our mind-body communication.

It demonstrates how our early relational and environmental influences creates an individual [subjective] map which guides our thinking and behaviour, leading to habitual patterns and personality traits.

While genetic influences play a part, NLP seeks to 'open up our senses' to perceive miscommunication as differences in perception based on our 'maps' which may be distorted or out-of-date.

Originally called META, NLP arose from the 'human potential movement' and its two most famous founders are Richard Bandler and John Grinder.  It has a colourful history, has been developed by other well-respected contributors and is applied widely within many fields.

NLP is a recognised modality within the United Kingdom Council of Psychotherapists (UKCP).  This is appropriate as its roots are in therapy as Bandler and Grinder first studied the work of Fritz Perls (Gestalt Therapy), Virginia Satir (Family Therapy) and Dr Milton Erickson (clinical hypnotherapist), noting the strategies they used to get excellent results, which they then taught to others.

Why Learn NLP

NLP is an effective development tool because you can apply what you learn to yourself, improving all areas of your life, as well as impacting others in a more positive way.

It can be integrated with others disciplines, such as coaching, counselling and career guidance, as well as within business, education, health and sports.

NLP is a powerful communication tool for parents, building relationships, managing family dynamics and building confidence in raising children, especially during the teenage years.
