Working With Young People

An important part of my work is with young people, helping them overcome barriers and getting them back on track.

I have supported teenagers and young adults since 1991, first as an interview skills trainer for students preparing for higher education and Oxbridge, then as a qualified careers adviser, coach and personal adviser offering intensive support to students with emotional and behavioural difficulties.

In my experience, teenagers either act out their problems or internalise them.  Families may struggle for years or often be caught unawares by a sudden crisis.  Support can be patchy or non-existent and visits to GPs all too often result in antidepressants.  While problems can be managed in this way, the 'dulling' impact can lead to a deterioration in motivation and further disengagement in education.

The services I offer include:

  • Consultancy: undertaking research to help you make the best choice about which services are available and supporting you in the process as you make decisions about your daughter / son.
  • Therapeutic Coaching (or Counselling): working directly with your daughter / son helping them to make sense of their experience and to find better ways of self-expression.
  • Career Coaching: supporting young people (16 - 25 years) to make informed choices about their career and helping with interview skills, cv preparation and job hunting technqiues.

My services include home and education (approved) visits.  I have an approved Criminal Records Bureau check, enhanced for working with young people.
